I have my bass guitar, small amp, acoustic guitar, full-size electric piano keyboard.
I'm not a serious musician on any of them, and none are terribly expensive, but I'd rather they not get damaged or stolen (replacement cost).
I'm inclined (especially now that it seems I will have a car-top carrier!) to bring those with me in the car rather than having them be packed in the U-Haul pods.
I would put them in the car, not in the car-top carrier (probably just clothes in the car-top box). My car has tinted rear windows so it's not that easy to see in the back, and I would cover them with some ratty blanket.
Thoughts My friend feels like I'm better off putting them in the moving pods (she's much more wary than I am of car break-ins), but I'm more inclined to bring them with me in the car.

There are some questions it's impolite to ask, because it's likely that people don't want to think about or share the answer. Questions like "do they pay you more than me" or "how often do you masturbate". And I think that's a reasonable "rule of etiquette" to follow, because personal questions can be awkward.
However: if someone else makes the situation awkward for you, then this rule is off the table. When someone is overstepping their boundaries or consent, you can and *should* break this rule. Go right for the gut: "are you saying that because I'm a woman would you treat a man the same way" etc.
Either they're overstepping on purpose, in which case you should call them out in public, or they're overstepping by accident, in which case the situation is already awkward and you may as well take the opportunity to course-correct.
