Since a certain influencer's 100 days of drawing is causing mixed emotions. While I am by no means professional level (in my eyes)
I do want to give out a piece of wisdom as an older artist:

Do not hold yourself to the same standards of another artist's skill and or experience level.

Everyone learns differently. Our situations are not the same, such as income, life responsibilities, social connections, and abled bodies. Understand how you learn and it'll help you a lot!

CV sifting - mid level developer edition.

Look, you might have been in the industry almost as long as I've been alive, but if your CV doesn't even *mention* any of the requirements (aside from the vague notion of "I learn quick") I can't pass you onto interview.

Additionally, throwing CV's at anything tangentitally related to your profession just wastes everyones time.

One thing I really wished that I had been told when I was younger is that when you are sad, feel bad, angry, whatever, you can just do something to make somebody else happy and it just goes away.

It's really almost like a cheat code for life, and sort of insane we don't drive that into children early on.

Are you disappointed Make somebody smile!
Were you treated unfairly Treat somebody else great!
In a lot of pain Do a favor for a stranger!

This is a solved problem, but we still treat these situations as unknowable.

This whole forced microsoft copilot thing is making me so mad. Been thinking for a while of having a second hard drive with a linux distro for my personal work that i can boot to, and keeping windows for external work stuff.

Not sure how to go about doing this, though, does anyone have any advice on this

Also for distros i was thinking popOS since I recall using it for his work*. I have been using Kubuntu on a laptop and it works great, but I am open to suggestions. I mostly use Krita, Scribus and OpenOffice.

*Edit: I recalled wrong, see replies :)

A gentle reminder to all the adults that forget things and also think they are indestructible: wear eye protection when playing nerf gun battles because age does not in fact mean appropriate aim is actually a thing. -sincerely, my right eye.

Here's a core concept video on Seneca's Letter 30, in which he uses the example of a friend who is approaching death to discuss how we all might think about our own inevitable demises.

So, I have kidney cancer. We are pretty sure its some type clear cell (most common). Im having my kidney and mass removed February 19th. And while the thought of living with one kidney doesnt bother me the idea of surgery does. Im coming around more to it.

Its also good there doesnt seem to be any spread (according to all scans). Doesnt mean it cant come back, but maybe we can take this out and get to living a little more.

The thing is, I discovered that I enjoy acting while performing in a "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves" parody play waaay back in 8th grade but my low self-esteem issues led me away from pursuing it after being mocked by some assho uh, other kids. I've always regretted letting them get in my head.

Now, playing has rekindled my interest, plus I've gotten much better at not giving a shit about others' opinions.

I am slowly realizing I have like no friends that live near me anymore and I'm very unsure how I make friends now

There's no meetup groups around that are things of interest to me, there's no more public spaces near me where people can just... meet other people anymore, and it isn't like any of these "friend apps" are what I want or actually have my benefit in mind

How does one make friends in 2024 I'll take any advice I can get at this point

Any suggestions on how to deal with a neighbourhood pest

There's a guy let's call him the Leafs Asshole who drives around the neighbourhood *laying* on the horn of his Leafs-flags bedecked silver Hyundai. He's got the radio blaring too, and he alternates between driving very slowly yelling at people or extremely fast and unsafely. You can hear him many blocks away.

He's been doing this for a while. He clearly has some problems, but he needs to stop.

In every lie there is an ounce of truth, but the truth they won't tell you is often an agenda or there is some form of conditioning behind it. Because truths would speak for themselves. Whereas lies are hidden in a deeper meaning.
