Writing Tips 11 - More tips to help keep you writing
Most of you should probably just stay at home and not bother voting at all. You don't understand the issues and you haven't really been paying attention and anyway you live in a safe seat where your vote makes no difference at all.
If you feel like none of the candidates are really speaking for you, it's because they take you for granted and are happy that they live in a corrupt fraudulent voting system that excludes you from power. They honestly don't care if you participate.
The country demonstrating complete apathy at the whole situation and giving as little mandate as possible might well be the best message to send.
For the one quarter or so of you who do live in an actual marginal constituency, vote anyone who could possibly win that isn't the Big Two. A hung parliament is the best hope and you get that by voting for the underdogs where they can make a difference.
Everyone outside England should vote for anyone offering to leave Westminster entirely of course. The house is corrupt beyond repair.
In Richmond, vote Binface to take out the trash.

If you've been making risotto for a long time, can you share some advice
The old ways of stovetop would reduce heat fairly quickly if you went from highest to lowest heat setting (gas or coil electric). These newer glasstops retain heat much longer and will maintain a fast boil for 4+ minutes after turning to low. That's enough to really mess up a risotto recipe. Seriously, it was bad.
So I tried hovering the saucepan over, with enough space to keep a simmer, until the glasstop burner cooled off enough. That 'hack' was hard on the arms for 4-5 minutes, but the recipe still turned out great. It worked to save the food.
Then I tried running a second burner at low and transferring burners, which worked great too, albeit redundant. Just stuck with that method until tonight, when I hurt my hand because I forgot about the back up burner being on.
Kinda hoping someone has come up with a safer, smarter work around. If so, please share.

Someone asked me recently about the ability to "Read the Room" and whether or not this was a skill that can be developed. I certainly believe it is a skill and can be cultivated. Perhaps the most impactful maxim which can guide us in this regard was taught to me by a Jedi Knight who went by the name Zenchi from the Temple of the Jedi Order. He told me, "Learn to Observe without needing to React."
The Internet, particularly the social media algorithm demon, has created an incentive not just to React to everything, but to Observe specifically to React. In this way we often bias our interpretation of that which we observe with a skew towards the least charitable interpretation so that our reaction can be as extreme as possible.
To counteract this and hone this skill of reading the room, we can practice several behaviors that will improve our lives.
First, be the last person to speak in an interaction. When you allow everyone else to have their say, it gives you a chance to examine their perspectives and gauge their intentions.
Second, questions are better than statements. The cultivation of curiosity leads to more robust conversations. A statement can often be viewed as dismissive or ultimate in nature, sometimes leaving a conversation partner feeling as though there's nothing left to say. Curiosity, by contrast, is almost always viewed as an invitation to continue discourse.
Third, speak in a way that is pleasant. We've been taught to rely on flippancy and sarcasm in modern discourse as we assume the intentions of others or deliberately misconstrue them to make ourselves look superior. By engaging with someone in a pleasant way, we can disarm hostility. Even if others fail to uphold this standard, we will still maintain our own peace which is of a value beyond measure.

5 More Tips for Writing Poetry
Here are a few tips to help you release your inner poet
It started as a sketch, then it became a sort of cartoon.
"I'd like to repeat the advice that I gave you before, in that I think you really should make a radical change in your lifestyle and begin to boldly do things which you may previously never have thought of doing, or been too hesitant to attempt. So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun.
If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security and adopt a helter-skelter style of life that will at first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty. Get out of Salton City and hit the Road. I guarantee you will be very glad you did. But I fear that you will ignore my advice. You think that I am stubborn, but you are even more stubborn than me. You had a wonderful chance on your drive back to see one of the greatest sights on earth, the Grand Canyon, something every American should see at least once in his life. But for some reason incomprehensible to me you wanted nothing but to bolt for home as quickly as possible, right back to the same situation which you see day after day after day. I fear you will follow this same inclination in the future and thus fail to discover all the wonderful things that God has placed around us to discover.
Don't settle down and sit in one place. Move around, be nomadic, make each day a new horizon. You are still going to live a long time and it would be a shame if you did not take the opportunity to revolutionize your life and move into an entirely new realm of experience.
You are wrong if you think Joy emanates only or principally from human relationships. Joy is all around us. It is in everything and anything we might experience. We just have to have the courage to turn against our habitual lifestyle and engage in unconventional living.
My point is that you do not need me or anyone else around to bring this new kind of light in your life. It is simply waiting out there for you to grasp it, and all you have to do is reach for it. The only person you are fighting is yourself and your stubbornness to engage in new circumstances."
Chris McCandless from Into the Wild, by Jon Krakauer
It is recommended to arrive three hours ahead of schedule rather than being even a minute late. These words come from the esteemed English dramatist, William Shakespeare.
Once I had a friend who asked me to give him advice that would help him manage his life better.
I mentioned that he seemed to have an affinity for drama.
It was the last time we spoke. Later, another friend told me that he said he couldn't deal with me anymore because I was too high-drama for him. (I suspect nobody else has ever said that about me.)
That was probably when I learned that even when someone asks for they might not actually want any.
