How not to live your life
Are you Mad?

This advice is valuable and worth listening to.

I released this episode of Mind & Desire to my paid Substack subscribers a month ago. It's now available to everyone. The key question is: How much time do you need to give to a philosophical text in order to adequately understand it

Ive been thinking of getting a FitBit. I am curious about the statistics. I dont want phone notifications or anything fancy like that. However, I dont think I could have something around my wrist at night. Is it still worth it to get if I dont use it to track sleep (which I already know isnt great) Or is there a Fitbit out there that feels more like cloth, breathable, non-constrictive, etc

Looking for advice for finding work (either as an employee or a contractor) in the FOSS/Green Energy/Something Good For The World sectors, using Python primarily.

Fellow ,
I come to you today, seeking .
I've just started a new & am curious to know if its best to use 1 track for everything or separate tracks for each item For example, I'd have:
*Intro
*host (me)
*Guest
*Outro
This is how I had it before, but wouldn't let me edit what I needed to. Items kept playing over each other.
Any & all advice is greatly appreciated.

Reasonable people will listen and likely say reasonable things.

Unreasonable people will say unreasonable things and like won't listen.

This is a huge modern day paradox. YouTube for some reason thought it would be smart to recommend me a video about V-gan Booty's ban from Australia... well, the title itself is a strawman so that tells me all I need to know about the video. "That Vegan Teacher's daughter banned from Australia."

Right... but she isn't Unless she was somehow adopted
Either way, this just reminds me of all the discourse around That Vegan Teacher and V-gan Booty getting all this traction, leading to a bunch of unreasonable people strawmanning and creating red herrings, choosing that as demonstrable evidence as opposed to REAL DEMONSTRABLE EVIDENCE. And believe it or not, I'm unbiased. I don't side until something is demonstrably proven. Hitchen's Razor after all.

But I am fed up of this. Then people have the audacity to ask why I'm depressed.

Random heatwave advice: Watch your driving on freeways today, I notice that there are a lot of tire shredding events on days >95F here (because the heat often pushes tires that are at the end of their life or damaged off the deep end).

Want People to Remember What You Say In 49 Seconds, Gave the Best I've Heard This Year.

To be an effective ask yourself two simple questions.

I was thinking earlier about why I don't follow some well meaning people anymore. and it sort of ties into that "Why do intelligent people believe dumb things" narrative which is easily debunked when you realize the one trait all humans have in common. Begins with a H.

That said, I've got some really solid for everyone to help differentiate two very often confused/muddled up terms.

There's a difference between being greedy/perfect and being picky.

The former is expecting an unrealistic result, in which the world revolves around you, which is a trait of narcissism and solipsism.

The latter is something true to your nature. Like you can't tolerate being around a certain food because of its smell. That's fine. That's not greedy in the slightest, that's inherent.

With people, with a controversial take, being picky is fine as well. I tune off of a lot of non-vegans when they start justifying their bullshit, and that's just me.

Now should I make a very long thread, or would that be annoying to read Or would people not see it because every time I post something new its necroing an old thread that would probably span months

Or one thread per subject With an additional pinned thread where I link to the first post of each sub-thread But that would make it hard to read the whole thing.

Any idea on how to do this best

Looking for Fedi advice: I want to write about the making of the Nemesis core for MiSTer. Ideally, it would be a long blog post, very detailed, with how the board works, how the project started, and how core was made.

But Ill never have the focus and energy to write it all before publishing it. So Im thinking of posting bits of it here regularly, not necessarily in order, and not in final form. >>

Id like to drop Z-Wave because Id like to remove the dongle (Zigbee is now handled by a different, better coordinator) and Id like to drop the dependency on zwave-js in my services. Its all a matter of simplifying.

I have a Z-Wave setup in my home automation integration. For a single device. At the time, I was using a dongle that was a combo Zigbee/Z-Wave dongle so I was being agnostic with my device choices.

But I only ever got one Z-Wave device: My thermostat.

Finding Zigbee thermostats seems tough. Ive seen them on Amazon. But searching sucks these days.

Any recommendations for a Zigbee connected thermostat that supports heat pump with electric backup

If you ever have an existential crisis like wondering why the fuck existence is even a thing, just try to give your life as many tasks as possible. It's been pretty effective for myself personally. I've got hundreds of things to do, some of which I can do everyday but not always. The point is, I end up focusing on the tasks which helps take my mind off any bad shit.

People often confuse 'nature' and 'habit' together.

Nature is someone's character which is often unchangeable.
Where habit is repeated, or practised (or acquired) but is more likely changeable.

I got thinking about this when hearing about people's traumatic life stories. There's a lot of habit and nature going on for the victims. But also perpetrators as well.

There's an important line to draw at that which isn't possible to change and that which is. It could give you ease once you understand it.
