The 4 Types of Luck by Sahil Bloom Shared

The 4 Types of Luck
In 1978, a neurologist named Dr. James Austin published a book entitled Chase, Chance, & Creativity: The Lucky Art of Novelty.

In it, Dr. Austin proposed that there are four types of luck:

Blind Luck
Luck from Motion
Luck from Awareness
Luck from Uniqueness
Here's how to think about each type:

I should get back into my creative hobbies. Any art or writing ideas

Start with the Jar: How to understand your capacity via Turtles Pace Shared

Optimism is dangerous, especially when it comes to planning our goals. If we underestimate the effort of an endeavor, we set ourselves up for failure. When we fail to meet our expectations, we can succumb to cynicism.
We must learn how much we can process to avoid the hope trap.

Domain, Duration, and Dimension

Imagine you have thousands of marbles to carry on a plane, and airport security released a new regulation that limits an individual to one jarful. If you dont know the jar's capacity, you wont know how many marbles you can bring and could risk losing your precious orbs!

Needed some about a specific product today (and the Internet had been a rather big failure regardless of my search terms).

Whilst the area was staffed as I was arriving, by the time I got to the desk, all had disappeared and remained so for several minutes.

Bonus discovery: they probably don't live-monitor their cameras.

I need from people smarter than me about backup drives for my MacBook Pro (Chip Apple M1, MacOs Sequoia 15.4) My ancient WD external hard drive is completely full and won't take any more of my files.

I bought a Samsung SSD T9 and it won't recognize Time Machine, so I'm returning it. (I spent way too much time trying to figure it out.)

What backup drive do you recommend that is compatible with Time Machine and will just plug-and-play like the good ol' days

It may feel like everything is burning around you, see it as an invitation to follow natural rhythms and act in small yet easily repeatable ways. This will resonate with others to activate and strengthen new and nascent networks.

Bryan Cranston's to Aspiring

Alright fedi, strap in! I'm mid-brainstorm and I'm bringing you along for the ride

I'm considering someone to help with client lead gen for my business - and while I know a *lot* about recruiting, i know very little about .

The target clients would be founders/c-suite teams of startups who have recently raised VC funding and usually end up with a lot of hiring to do as part of that agreement.

Anyone have suggestions on what this sort of arrangement might look like Thinking it would definitely be part-time, likely hourly with something of a finder's fee if their leads pan out

I'm also wondering if something like this would be good for a marketing student They could turn it in to a use case/internship for their coursework/future interviews and also make money (which never hurts!).

So I guess I don't know what I'm asking... maybe any of the below:

* What would you call this kind of work
* What kind of person should I be looking for
* What metrics should someone have/what rates of success should I expect
* What questions (if any) could I add to my interview to tell if someone is full of bullshit
* What would be a going/fair rate and comp structure

Anyway... thanks for coming to my brain dump!

The different kinds of notes by Baldur Bjarnason Shared

The post where I outline my general theory of notetaking for all to disagree with

At the end of my last post, I mentioned that I had switched to pen and paper notetaking in the early 2010s, after years of serious digital notetaking using plain text files.

I wrote about how much more enjoyable the analogue notetaking was but what I didnt mention was why I abandoned my plain text system. Nor did I write about my first foray into serious notetaking.

Indeed NotePlan, indeed.

I've got a playful adult cat who enjoys pouncing and chasing string/rope toys. He thinks wires are string toys. Any ideas on how to teach him the difference I don't want to find out the hard way if an electric blanket or laptop draw enough power to electrocute a cat.

I'm looking for advice.

I'm considering trying to cook chicken breast in something like a double boiler for a sous vide effect, minus the microplastics. I want to try this because I cook large enough quantities at once that it's hard to ensure all of it's thoroughly cooked, and none is overcooked.

I know the "correct" answer is to not overfill the pan. I don't have the spoons to do that.

The Gave Early in Their Careers

Essential for to Navigate

Hey UK and EU folks,

In late August, my wife and I are heading to Republic of Ireland (won't make it north)any ideas for photo locations. Doing a package tour, but there will be time for us to take side trips on our own.

I'm looking for some

I have an acquaintance with whom I've spent a lot of time in overlapping circles (same college, live in the same area, had kids at the same school) for 30+ years. They have always been difficult and socially clueless, to the extent that it became a running joke between me and my wife ("Oh, no, so-and-so is acting up on the school email list again"). FWIW, they are extremely intelligent, and I suspect they are neurodivergent, probably undiagnosed.
