Make the Decision Right: A 1987 Aphorism Against the Age of the Open Tab
An old professor of mine, holding forth in 1987, handed his students one sentence to carry out the door: don't make the right decision make the decision right. He attached a coda that landed harder than the maxim itself. Regret, he told us, is mindless. I have been turning that sentence over for nearly four decades, and the turning has become its own education, because the sentence makes a metaphysical bet most listeners never notice they are taking. It claims that rightness arrives after the choosing, manufactured through labor and revision, and that no quantity of advance analysis can locate it beforehand, since the future refuses to sit still long enough to be computed. With one stroke the professor moved the entire moral weight of decision-making off the moment of selection and onto the years of execution. Pick a door, any door, then build a house behind it.& from

Western shirt #5, for my mom. I made a pattern taking my favorite parts from the various patterns I used on shirts #1-4, and sizing it up a little. Mom and I are similar sizes, so if it is big enough for me it's big enough for her (and it is).
Made lots of mistakes, but maybe fewer than #4 and they were less scary.
welcome for any tips on making the front plackets beautiful, as I'm consistently messing them up (weird, they shouldn't be hard). Also,...

5 Reasons Your Spec TV Pilot Should Contain A Show-Stopping Central Character
The Problem With Spec TV Pilots One of the biggest issues I see in speculative (not commissioned) TV pilots is a lack of a show-stopping central character. But why is this an issue Well, if we want our spec TV pilot to be read and/or commissioned by industry pros, a show-stopping central character is non-negotiable. Dear fluffy Donald,
I have a problem! I don't know what I want to become later. There are so many choices Firefighter, Carpenter, Sportspsychologist, Trapper...and on and on. You have had many different jobs, so I was wondering if you have any advice for me.
Greetings, Gerbert (11)

, , anyone wildly impassioned by scheduling logistics: please help me order the seven sessions for my little local writers fest :)
Current:
11am childrens literature talk for adults
12pm fanfiction workshop for teens
1pm worldbuilding in fantasy discussion panel
2pm build a hero for romance and romantasy fans
3pm researching family histories for adults (memoirs and historical fic)
4pm short story workshop for beginner writers
5pm open mic
Constraints:
- the teen workshop has to be one of the first two sessions
- the same author is doing the teen workshop and the discussion panel at the moment Ive got them together as at least some teens might stay for both sessions, but the author might need a gap between her sessions for book signing and a break. Teens might need a break too
- in which case, which session would best go between
- I feel like i want the three fantasy-related sessions kept together, but that can be sacrificed
- the build a hero session works best with a glass of wine, so skews a bit later in the day (Id prefer 3 or 4 pm, that is, not glasses of wine )
-the open mic has to go last. Also goes well with wine.
That kidlit session in particular is bothering me, its aimed at adults so feels like it should after the teen stuff, but the topic doesnt feel like it goes late in the day, but I think putting it between the two teen-friendly sessions could scare them off because then theyll feel grouped with the kid stuff
(The websites here for more info about each session if it helps, but the order might change from that given above as I fiddle with it: )
Might as well

I rely heavily on LLMs in my production workflow process. A notable challenge is the in-built sycophancy.
I find there are a couple of available remediation options:
1. Specifically ask for a hostile structural review.
2. Tell the LLM that the idea is external to you. For added effect, tell it that you are sceptical of claims being made.

If you had a bank account that credited your account each morning with
$86,400, that carried no balance from day to day, allowed you to keep no cash
in your account, and finally every evening cancelled whatever part of the
amount you had failed to use during the day, what would you do Draw out
every cent - of course!
Well, you have such a bank and its name is "Time." Every morning it
credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night it rules off - as lost -
whatever of this you have failed to invest to good purpose. It carries no
balances. It allows no balances. It allows no overdrafts. Each day the
bank named "Time," opens a new account with you. Each night it burns the
records of the day. If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is
yours.
Dear swarm intelligence, once again I need your wisdom. I need to build a little one-pager website for a reocurring consultant job. It's supposed to be like an extended web-resume, where potential clients can check out my experience and past gigs and get an idea of me and what I do.
Now I do have the means to self-host the thing, but I'm looking for a sevice to build it and export it. Maybe something that offers templates and preferably something that has a basic package for free.
If there ist something you can recommend, it will be greatly appreciated!
